Step Three: Where can we find that absolute truth?

WHERE CAN WE FIND IT?

First where do we know it cannot be found, at least not complete trustworthy, absolute truth?

We all know that we will not find truth in the written word of humans

  1. newspaper, or
  2. television news, or
  3. shows, or the
  4. theater, or
  5. books, or
  6. even textbooks.
  7. History books will be slanted, such as in the Civil War
    1. Northern History Books Recorded the Southern Rebellion
    2. Southern History Books Recorded the Northern Aggression

But what do we learn?

There Was  a Civil War

We can’t rely on any human source such as

  1. teachers,
  2. certainly not lawyers or
  3. politicians,
  4. nor preachers ( they may have a doctrine that is in error, thus a lie, and the bible tells us not to trust or rely on their preaching, but to verify what they say with the scripture.
  5. Most certainly not television evangelists for the most part.
  6. The list can go on and on, but there is only one ” type” of book that most people might consider truth, and that would be a religious book of some sort.

We have one last option for finding that elusive eternal absolute truth, and that is in the Holy Books of the world.

Sacred Texts
  • Buddhist Sacred Texts: The Sutras.
  • Christian Sacred Texts: The Bible.
  • Hindu Sacred Texts: The Vedas.
  • Islamic Sacred Texts: The Quran and Hadith.
  • Jewish Sacred Texts: The Tanach, Mishnah, Talmud and Midrash.

One of these books contain the absolute truth of the ages, of the universe, and for eternity.

All these books contain some truth

Only one of these books contain the absolute truth.

Two of these books cannot both be the absolute truth or they would be identical, and the only two that come close would be the Jewish Torah, or books of Moses, and the Bible, and that is because the Bible contains the Torah, which we refer to as the Old Testament, however, the New Testament,  which contains the absolute truth as an extension of the Old Testament is unique in it’s presentation of the complete Truth.

The Holy Bible, I believe is the one source of truth that can be relied upon.

If we can “prove” the bible is the one true Holy Book by overwhelming evidence, then to study others for the same reason would be a waste of time, for if we can demonstrate the inspiration of God in the Bible, no other book can offer the same words of God and be called by any other name, than the Bible… the word of God…

Now you may think this is narrow minded, however our focus is on the Holy Bible, and providing that overwhelming evidence of its authenticity.

And I will give one example as a comparison of a statement from the Bible, from the scientist of the day, and by the Quran

Isaiah 40:22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; (Holy Bible)

Psalm 19:4–6 says that the sun travels in a circuit from one end of heaven to the other. As scientists have recently discovered, the sun revolves around the Milky Way Galaxy once every 225 million years. http://www.idialstars.com/tspm.htm

The flat Earth model is an archaic conception of Earth’s shape as a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures subscribed to a flat Earth cosmography, including Greece until the classical period, the Bronze Age and Iron Age civilizations of the Near East until the Hellenistic period, India until the Gupta period (early centuries AD), and China until the 17th century. The idea of a spherical Earth appeared in Greek philosophy with Pythagoras (6th century BC), although most pre-Socratics (6th–5th century BC) retained the flat Earth model. Aristotle provided evidence for the spherical shape of the Earth on empirical grounds by around 330 BC. Knowledge of the spherical Earth gradually began to spread beyond the Hellenistic world from then on.[1][2][3][4]Despite the scientific fact of Earth’s sphericity, pseudoscientific flat Earth conspiracy theories are espoused by modern flat Earth societies and, increasingly, by unaffiliated individuals using social media.

The infamous “Sun setting in a murky pool of water” verse!
We all know about the infamous verse where Dhul-Qarnayn reaches the ends of the earth and sees the sun set in a murky pool of water:

Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: near it he found a people. Qur’an 18:86

Muslim apologists will claim that this verse is only talking about how it appeared to him that way when the sun was simply setting above the ocean. There’s a couple of problems with this.

Ok, let’s assume this is true. What is so special about this particular sun set then? If he traveled the world he would’ve seen many sun sets yet Allah makes it a point out of mentioning this one… Why? If it was just a regular sun set like the many others he would have seen on his journey then this one mentioned in the verse holds no significance. Why mention it as if there was something special about this sun set?

The verse mentions how he “reached” the setting of the sun.. How does that make sense? This goes back to my first point, on his journey he would’ve seen many sun sets yet only at this point in the story does he “reach” the setting of the sun? The sun has no setting place, therefore the verse makes no sense if we are to accept what Muslim apologists say.

Why doesn’t Allah simply say that it appeared to him that way? This is nowhere to be found in the Arabic text. It simply says he reached a place where the sun sets in a murky pool of water. Is Allah deliberately trying to mislead us and needs humans to correct his mistakes in getting his actual meaning across?

A couple of verses later Dhul-Qarnayn witnesses the sun rising and sees that the people near have no protection against the heat of the sun:

Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. – Qur’an 18:90

How does this make sense unless the verse is implying the sun is directly above them? Why would the people need protection from a regular sun rise? If it’s just a regular sun rise far away like the apologists would have us believe, why would Allah mention not giving them any protection against the sun? Sun rises occur all over the world yet this one is obviously special according to Allah since he mentions they don’t have any protection against it.

So the conclusion we can come to is that this story makes no sense if we are to accept what our Muslim apologist friends try to tell us. It only makes sense through a flat earth geocentric view of the world which was common belief back then.

Soooo, based upon the previous statements, I am going with the statements of the Holy Bible that described the Sun

Now this was just one example out of many… right now we know the Quran could not be inspired when it contains these obvious errors, based upon the common thought of mankind during the time it was written.

The Bible is not written on the thoughts of a man or mankind, in fact much of the writings would have made no sense to those writing the book.

How can we know this? 40 men wrote the bible, over a 1400 to 1600 year period. Men of all different walks of life wrote it in three languages. It comes to gather in perfect harmony.

One of my bible studies (When I was still early in my Bible search for the truth) was simply, writing the bible. I started in Luke and using a Thompson chain reference bible, I wrote along with the verse all other verses that either crossed over to that verse, or explain the words, names, and etc used in that verse. I did this for app 3 hours everyday, and it took approximately one year to get through Luke I. In just one chapter of the bible, I have been from Genesis to Revelation writing verses to go along with this one chapter.

It could not be anything but the living word of God, absolutely God inspired for  this to be as interwoven as it is.

Now we that we have determined that the bible is the one truth that can be relied upon let continue on to the next point.

In what view should we consider the bible, in other words what framework of thought should we choose to view the bible and its truth? Or should we use all of them?

The choices are:

  1. The Idealist: They want an answer to the question what is truth? They state that whatever we see in the material world is but a fleeting, imperfect reflection of a realm that is perfect and eternal.
  2. The Realist: In direct opposition of idealism to the realist whatever we perceive is real. Realism does not include religion. Tomas Aquinas was a realist yet he believed that both matter and spirit were created by God and that God’s creating the universe is proof of it’s reality, for anything divinely created must be real.
  3. The Pragmatist: He agrees with the realist that matter exists and is not simply a a projection of man’s mind or a reflection of something more spiritual. The pragmatics emphasizes particularly man’s social environment, contending that the happiest man is one who has learned to operate thoughtfully and deliberately among other men. According to pragmatism, man does not simply receive knowledge, HE MAKES IT
  1. The existentialist: He declares that the center of all truth must be the thinking, feeling individual. Nothing makes much difference unless it refers to the personal life of men. The existentialist feels that too often seekers after truth have moved in the thin air of abstract speculation instead of addressing themselves to such important issues of human existence as love, anguish, sickness, death, and the decisions of each passing hour. The existentialist says that man must never summit himself to any regime, not even religion or science. He is a free moral Agent, therefore all of his acting and thinking should be his own.
  2. Logical empiricist: He contends that most problems can eventually be reduced to problems of language and meaning. Our main task therefore, is to clarify the meaning of propositions and statements. When this is done, they say, we shall find that problems are either scientific and mathematical or meaningless and nonsensical. The logical empiricist is perfectly happy to sit in an attic room solving isolated, individual problems without attempting to create from them a system of truth.

Centuries of creative thinking and careful analysis have gone into the formulation of such frameworks as the five we have just describe.

To ignore we have just described.

To ignore them would be unthinking. We cannot deny that each of these schools of thought presents some aspect of truth. Man is primarily a spiritual being; matter is real; man’s mental processes should remain flexible; we should give thought to grievous social problems; statements ought certainly to be crystal clear. Yet, no sooner have we admitted this than we realize with a sinking heart that we are no happier than before, and that if this were all there is to life our hunger for truth would keep on gnawing at us and we would remain empty and miserable.

One day a peasant of India asked an old traveler as they stood together under the shade of a tree, “Where are you going, holy man?” The old man answered: To a city far away.”

” In India?” the peasant queried. The answer was, ” Farther”

In Asia?”

“Farther, farther, friend, farther; for that city I seek is Truth, and Truth is hidden in the heart of God/”

In this answer the old wanderer expressed wisdom that has bridged time. On this fundamental position we must build all branches of knowledge. Because this is so vital to our correct thinking, all our ideas must harmonize with the larger idea of God.

{the above is quoted from the Dimensions n Salvation by W.R. Beach}

We seek truth and truth is hidden in the heart of God.

If a certain claim to truth does not harmonize with all truth previously Established, the disparity is enough to reject the claim.

Isaiah said To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Those deeply concerned with truth have found in the scriptures the source of genuine harmony that explains man’s three questions. They have been amazed time and again at how consistently both the old and the new testament delineate a plan for man’s salvation from sin and restoration to perfection. The harmony of the bible is irrefutable proof of it’ s truth.
